RM Kota Buana in Pekanbaru offers a straightforward, no-frills setting typical of Padang diners, where the focus is clearly on delivering hearty, traditional meals rather than elaborate décor or a quiet dining escape. Located along Jl. HOS. Cokroaminoto, the restaurant tends to become lively and bustling, especially during mealtimes, reflecting its popularity among locals craving authentic Padang flavors.

This place is best experienced during lunchtime or early evening when the flow of diners brings a sense of community and shared appreciation for well-prepared regional dishes. The staff are efficient and accustomed to managing busy periods, often making room for walk-ins while maintaining a friendly attitude. You’ll notice practical touches like bowls of water at the table for washing hands, underscoring the communal style of eating that Padang cuisine encourages.

Patrons who appreciate bold and slightly tangy flavors will find the Dendeng Batokok a highlight—thinly sliced, spiced dried beef served with green chilies and onions in a vinegar-like marinade adds a sharp contrast to the rice. Other plate options that regularly draw positive attention include gulai ikan baung and various satays, which come with signature Padang sauces that lend layers of spice and richness.

Those coming in for a quick, satisfying meal of classic Indonesian comfort food will find themselves well served here. It’s ideal for visitors who don’t mind a lively atmosphere and want a genuine taste of local Padang cooking without any pretension. The generous servings of rice and side dishes mean you’ll leave with a full plate—and quite possibly, leftovers to take home.

Dendeng Batokok (with green chili and onion slices, served in pickle-like liquid) is very famous.

Delicious Nasi Padang and Redang Daging on the recommendation of my taxi driver. Restaurant is popular and busy when I arrive, but there are many staff and they are happy to assist me. Bowls of water are placed by the table for you to wash your hand if you need. A glass of hot water is also served. They always seem to serve with extra rice that I should have rejected. Now I feel so full. I got the Redang Daging and an egg. Paid 41k

Came here only for their famous DENDENG BATOKOK! Must have! So yum! Happiness on a plate! Other food I can recommend is their Ayam Pop. The crunchy fried chicken with soy sauce. Used to eat their Ayam Pop back then circa 2000. It’s good tho. But now I’m more into their Dendeng Always crowded in lunch time. Yet the service is fast and staff were very friendly! Tables are close to each other, you may sit with other customers. Not only do you get to try a spice sensory carnaval of flavors, you meet knew people you may not have with out this Sumatrian Nasi Padang experience. If this is your first experience with Nasi Padang, the staff will help you with a smile! Kinda hard to find a parking lot. Limited parking area.
